ON THE ENERGY USED FOR SUSPENDED SEDIMENT BY WATER IN OPEN-CHANNELS
The energy used for suspended sediment is one of the important parts in energy balance equation in sediment-laden flow. Based on the summary of the existing energy balance equations of sediment-laden flow, the drawbacks of these equations have been pointed out. A new expression of suspension work has been proposed from the velocity distribution law in sediment-laden flow. The energy balance equation in sediment-laden flow based on the new expression of suspension work not only can account for the effects of sediment transport on flow energy balance, but also can explain the existing experimental results of the resistance variations in sediment-laden flow. The comparisons with measured data show that the results by using of the new expression of suspension work in energy balance equation can improve the accuracy of prediction of flow resistance in sediment-laden flow.
