HYDRAULIC EXPERIMENTS ON WAVES AND DEFORMATION OF MOBILE RIVERBED WITH SAND AROUND NARROW PASS

Korea consists of mountains at the rate of 70%. Due to this, the sections that display unique channel form are scattered. One of the typical features is the narrow pass of channel section that presents in the process of the generation of alluvial channel and deformation channel. Around as this narrow pass of channel, it often comes to be regular flood disaster section. Regardless of this situation, investigations and plans that reflect channel characteristics at the narrow pass of channel have been wholly wanting until now. Thus, this study aimed to secure the stability and safety of the stream by analysis of the changing pattern of the shape of the stream channel through the physical experiments on the movable bed of the sand stream. The specifications of the water channel that used for the physical experiments are 0.6 m wide, 0.8 m high, and 20 m long, taking e cases of slope channel 1/400,500,1000. And the condition of uniform flow for each water depth was adopted and the particle diameter of the model sand of 1 mm was used. The results of the experiments showed that the condition of the supply of the sediment has a critical influence on the changes in the shape of the river bed in Korea. It was also confirmed that the single cross-sections of the stream channel are changing into a compound cross sections to make the difference between the low flow channel and high flow channel considerably high.
