A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR THE CHANNEL BED EVOLUTION DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF DONGJIANG HYDRO-PROJECT

On the base of the measuremefit on the prototype river channel, a numerical model is developed to simulate the river bed scour and fill downstream of Dongjiang Hydro-Project in construction. The basic equations of the mathematical model include the 2-D shallow water flow equations, sediment transport equations and river bed evolution equation. The characteristic-based split finite element algorithm is adopted to establish a mathematical model. Unsteady flows with non-linear river bed elevation and drying-wetting bed, transport of bed load and bed evolution can be simulated by the model. The longitudinal water surface, the cross-section velocity distribution, and the quantity and distribution of scour and deposit of the numerical model are compared with the measured data. The agreement between the computed and measured results is satisfactory.
