DESIGN OF HEADLAND CONTROL,BEACH PROTECTION SCHEME
Headland control-beach protection scheme has been successfully employed in engineering practices to stabilize sedimentary beaches. Like the crenulate-shaped bays observed in nature, the bays formed between headlands could remain stable with the same planform over a substantially long period. However, the current design practice in selecting the location of headlands along the coast has been somewhat arbitrary because there is a lack of rigorous or strict design guidelines. By adopting their model of static equilibrium bay planform, the writers developed a method to properly deploy the headlands such that the bays thus formed would not intercept the designated landward limit. A simple example calculation is also presented.
