DESIGN OPTIMIZATION ON THE CHANNEL OUTLET OF THE YANGTZE RIVER TO HANJIANG RIVER WATER TRANSFER PROJECT

Channel confluences are common in natural rivers and many hydraulic engineering projects. When branch join in main canal, at the confluence zone, due to the jacking of current from main stream and tributary stream, the mixing and turbulence of current is so strong that the balance of water and sediment is broken, that would cause sediment particle to deposit and forms shallow shoal at river mouth. Especially when the channel has navigation requirements, the navigation security may be affected by the change of surface flow characteristics, such as transverse flow, water separating and reflux which is caused by water junction. Based on a model test of the reach of the channel outlet of the Yangtze River to Hanjiang River water transfer project, this paper analyzes the influence of the confluence angle and the shape of confluence mouth connection arc on surface flow characteristic of confluence area in large discharge ratio, and carries out optimization design for the original design scheme, gets the optimization design scheme of the channel outlet of the Yangtze River to Hanjiang River water transfer project.
