OPTIMIZATION OF HYDRAULIC DESIGN FOR SHORT INTAKE BASED ON COMPLEX METHOD
Short intake with pressing plate is widely used as the intake of the water releasing structure in water resources and hydroelectric projects. Because of the complexity of the flow pattern in the intake with high velocity flow, the design of short intake should be careful, or else cavitation damage would occur. The hydraulic characteristic at the intake depend on the configuration and shape. In this article, based on existing studies on the intake, a mathematical model for optimal shape design of the intake is established. In the model, the discharge coefficient of intake is chosen as objective function to be maximized, and the main parameters of intake configuration are defined as design variables. Two kinds of constraints are specified, one is to guarantee that no cavitation damage occurs and another is to satisfy some requirements for a rational commonly-used configuration. An engineering example demonstrates that based on some design requirements and the optimization method presented in this paper, an ideal configuration of short intake can be obtained, which is safe, economical and applicable.
