IMPACT OF ABUTMENT DIMENSION ON THE RECIRCULATION LENGTH: AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
Relationships between the longitudinal dimension of an abutment and the recirculation length behind it have been established based on the experimental data. The results demonstrated that the length of recirculation decreased with the increase of the width-length ratio of an abutment (b/D). The recirculation length was sensitive to changes in b/D when b/D is small, and became a constant when b/D was larger than 4, at which point the results were equivalent to solutions for sudden expansion problems. A formula was proposed to calculate the length of recirculation for longitudinal dimension of an abutment.
