THE AUTO-MONITORING AND SIMULATION OF DYKE BREAK IN THE RIVER NETWORKS
This study embedded an auto-searching technique and hydraulic formula for computing the flow over a notch-like or trapezoidal weir into a numerical model, which simulated flow in river networks only, in order to simulate the dyke break process. The model was applied to an incident occurred in the river networks of Shanghai area. During that incident, the dykes along the rivers in certain part of the river networks were broken due to overtopping induced by tidal influence and water level rising caused by large amount of storm runoff. The results showed that the dyke break process was rationally simulated. The accuracy of water level simulation is in the range of 0.04~0.09m, and the accuracy of discharge simulation is 8%~24%. The model can be used in prediction of the possible dyke break and estimation of the possible consequence in complicated river networks.
