FLOW CHARACTERISTICS OF POOL-TYPE FISHWAY WITH TRAPEZOIDAL SECTION
Recently, the authors proposed a pool-type fishway with a trapezoidal section for the upstream and downstream migrations of multi-aquatic animals. From field observations of the proposed fishway, swimming fish, benthic fish, and crustaceans migrated through the proposed fishway. Also, after flood with sediment transport, there was no deposit of gravel in the pool of the proposed fishway. But, the effects of the side slope and the pool depth on flow characteristics of the fishway have not been clarified. In this paper, flow characteristics of the fishway with a trapezoidal section have been investigated systematically. The flow condition has been classified into three categories and the hydraulic condition required to form each flow condition has been shown. Also, the effects of the side slope and the pool depth on flow characteristics of the fishway with a trapezoidal section have been shown. Velocity measurements in the pool of the fishway yield that the migration route for swimming and benthic fish can be kept near the waterside.
