EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON THE SALT-OUT FLOW IN CHEMICAL PUMP

For further study of the salt-out mechanism in the chemical pump, under different temperatures,. Particle Image Velocimetry combined with image processing method is used to measure the salt-out turbulent flow of sodium sulfate solution in the impeller. The experimental results indicate that: there is not any crystal particle during the delay period, so the performance of pump is not affected. After the delay period, the crystal nuclei are born from the supersaturation solution and grow larger with temperature decreases. At lower temperature, tendency of crystal particles moving toward the pressure side of vane is more significant. According to analysis of experimental results, it is considered that there are two main reasons for this phenomenon, the low velocity near the pressure side is in favor of crystal growth, on the other hand, composite force of crystal particles is leaned to the pressure side because of the high density of crystal. These results are helpful to engineering design of this kind pump.
