STUDY ON REVERSE WATER HAMMER OF THE KAPLAN TURBINE
The phenomenon of reverse water hammer will occur when the guide vane is closed rapidly in load rejection transient of the Kaplan turbine. For researching this problem, this article uses the experimental and theory analysis method to study the section on which the reverse water hammer appeared and the critical pressure of water separation. The results indicate that: the section on which the reverse water hammer occurred is behind the guide vane, not the draft tube entrance. In load rejection transient, the pressure of the draft tube entrance is increasing, but the pressure of the section behind the guide vane is decreasing, the minimum pressure appears at the guide vane outlet. The author measured the critical cavitation pressure for the water samples of Wanjiazhai hydropower station. The experiment results show that: the critical cavitation pressure is much bigger than 0.24m which is the pure water vapor pressure under the normal temperature. Moreover, the critical cavitation pressure is increasing along with the increase of sand quantity. So, we must use the actual cavitation pressure measured for the water sample in hydropower plant to judge whether the phenomenon of reverse water hammer will occur.
