CONCEPTION AND DESIGN OF A MICRO-HYDRO IN A WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM
In the past, in a more traditionalistic approach, the managing entities of water supply systems, of public, private or mixing nature, were worried exclusively about economic aspects that guaranteed the quality and amount of water to the users. Nowadays, the decision makers cannot be only oriented by economic aspects, being fundamental to consider other factors, such as performance analysis, reliability improvements and operational costs savings appearing, thus, the conception of integrated non conventional solutions. This study presents the integrated solution of hydro implementation in water supply systems to benefit of an already existing installation in which the demands are guaranteed for the population. Moreover, the system presents an available potential energy that can be used by a micro-turbine for energy production. This energy can be used locally or to be sell to the national electric grid depending on the local advantages. A case study with viability analysis of the installation of a micro-turbine (or pump as turbine whenever the discharges will be so low that it will be economically unviable the installation of a turbine) in a water supplying system is presented, at the entrance of a water treatment plant for human consumption.
