CHANGES AND COUNTERMEASURES OF RESERVOIR WATER QUALITY AFTER STORAGE OF THREE GORGES RESERVOIR

Three Gorges Reservoir has initially revealed its integrated roles in flood control, electric power generation and shipping traffic since 2003 when it began to store water. According to the statistics and analysis on the systems water quality monitoring data, the water quality of its trunk stream within the reservoir district has no significant change compared with that before impoundment,which maintains a water quality level of Ⅱ-Ⅲ. However, it is worth notable that the water body pollution and flow speed slowing-down occurred in some branches within Three Gorges Reservoir once produced water blooms, which attracted high attention of the society. This paper has conducted analysis on the water environment changes caused by the impoundment of Three Gorges Reservoir together with countermeasures and suggestions regarding the enhancement of water pollution control.
