Long-Term Stability of Metal-Carbon Eutectic Fized-Point Cells
Long-term stability of metal-carbon eutectic fixed-point cells has been studied for the first time for Re-C,Pt-C and Co-C points with C/C-sheet insulated cell structure. After around fifty melt/freeze realizations, no change in melting temperature and no degradation in the plateau was observed for Re-C. For the Pt-C, a slow shortening of the plateau duration was observed, which became more drastic for Co-C. An improved cell design with the hybrid insulation of C/C sheet and sleeve was tested for the Co-C point. The result shows that this type of cell is highly stable and robust.
