Long-Term Stability of a Metal Cased Freezing Point of Aluminum Cell
A metal-cased aluminum fixed-point cell was developed two years ago. The purity of the aluminum was evaluated by analyzing the freezing plateau immediately after the cell was fabricated and again after a few thousand hours of operation. The apparent aluminum purity showed no detectable change. The cell was compared against a traditional fused quartz-cased cell, and the differences between them were within 1.0 mK. The expanded uncertainty (k=2) of the aluminum cell is estimated to be better than 2.0 mK.
