Ezpanding E-learning Space for Chinas Villagers by Constructing Multimedia Broadcast-Store Grid Environment

The digital divide of Internet has posed severe challenges to educational equity. According to the innovative concept of Information Engineering put forward by Chinese scientists, Tianjin Radio and TV University constructed an experimental environment based on the Broadcast-Store Grid technology, while introducing lifelong education system to local rural areas. It uses multimedia radio broadcasting technology and digital storage technology to extend the coverage of Internet, broaden the channels of information transmission, and increase the adaptability of a variety of learning terminals. Furthermore, it provides areas without cable information network or with limited bandwidth quickly built and low-cost information transmission channels and a supply of educational resources, thus expanding the digital learning space. This case also serves as good example for developing countries in promoting the opening and popularization of distance education.
