Design of a single large-span roof structure for Rotterdam Zoo Blijdorp
My graduation project at the Department of Architecture, Building and Planning from Eindhoven University of Technology consists of a design project for the Rotterdam Zoo Blijdorp, The Netherlands. I created a design for a number of animals accommodations underneath a single large-span roof structure. The project covered not only the aspects of design-both architectural and structural--but also the aspects of fabrication and erection of the building. Furthermore I found a solution to translate a blob design into a logical structure,using mathematical design principles. For the entire project it was the most obvious choice to use steel tubular profiles because of their aestetic and structural qualities.
