Ezperimental research and parameter analysis on rigidity of unstiffened tubular X-joints

In order to check the influence of rigidity of unstiffened tubular joints on structural behavior and stability, experimental research is carried out on axial rigidity, bending rigidity both in-plane and out-of-plane ofX-joints on the background of a single-layer tubular structure gymnasium. Detailed experimental scheme andresults are presented in the paper, and the fracture mechanism of specimens is analyzed. Systematic parameter analysis of tubular X-joints is performed using Ansys program. The influence of joint parameters, including ratio of chord diameter to its thickness, ratio of branch diameter to that of chord, ratio of branch thickness to that of chord, the angle between branch and chord, and chord stress etc, on rigidity of tubular X-joints is analyzed. Test results and analysis show that when the difference between branch diameter and that of chord is bigger, the axial and bending rigidity of joints are weaker, the influence of semirigid of tubular joints on structural behavior and especially stability behaviour is not negligible. While the branch diameter approaches to that of main tube, both axial and bending rigidity of joints are strong, and thus they can meet the requirements of rigid joint basically.
