Local joint flezibility of tubular circular hollow section joints with complete overlap of braces
This paper discusses the design concern of Local Joint Flexibility (LJF) of tubular circular hollow section joints with complete overlap of braces under basic loading. The results of the finite element analysis showed that the gap element is a very important geometrical parameter that significantly affects the LJE Under lap brace loading, there exist through brace axial and bending load that resulting in axial and rota-tional deformation on the chord wall. These loadings are in general transferred from the lap brace to the chord via the shell bending, beam action or combined shell and beam behavior of the gap element. In view of these load-transfer mechanisms that affecting the joint LJF, use of existing Y-joint formulae to predict LJF of the joints with complete overlap of braces may not necessarily be appropriate.
