Ezperimental research on large-scale flange joints of steel transmission poles
Steel poles are more and more used in transmission line systems especially in urban areas in recent years. This paper is concerned with the experimental study on ultimate strength of flange joints of steel transmission poles for Baihuadong transmission lines being constructed in Guangdong province in China. The tubes are made of steel Q420B to China National Code. The biggest diameter of the tube is 2100 mm. To verify the reliability of the flange joint and study the rotational axis location of bolts, three specimens were tested under monotonic loading. Through the experiment, the ultimate capacity and failure mode of flange joints were obtained. By comparing with the results between experiment and finite element analysis, a new rotational axis for calculating bolt force is proposed, which can be used as a reference in engineering practice.
