Interaction diagrams for concrete-filled tubular sections under fire

Strength interaction diagrams are useful tools for composite steel and concrete cross section analysis and design. They relate ultimate values of bending moments and axial force, allowing quick assessment of a cross section strength. Under fire action, the behavior of the cross section changes considerably, and these diagrams become dependent on the temperature field. The fire action introduces thermal strains and modi-fies the stress-strain relationships. The purpose of this paper is to present an algorithm for the construction of strength interaction diagrams for concrete-filled hollow sections subjected to fire. The diagrams are obtained by a stepwise variation of the deformed configuration, under assumptions of conventional ultimate strain values for concrete and steel. The procedure is illustrated by the construction of interaction diagrams for circular and square concrete-filled hollow sections.
