A Database of the Microscopic Features of Chinese Woods and its Application

Introduction China is one of the richest countries in terms of forest vegetation. A large number of tree species is distributed all over China. It counts more than 7,000 species including shrubs and vines. Although a very useful atlas for the anatomical description of Chinese woods, “中国木材志 in Chinese, has been published in 1985 by Cheng J., Yang J. and Liu P., we still need to increase the number of species for the anatomical description of Chinese woods as the former book contains the microscopic pictures of just 392 species. We are now in the process of bringing out an atlas or database on Chinese woods.
