Research on the Best Width of Wood Specimen for Zero-span Tension Strength Testing
Introduction The longitudinal tensile strength of tracheid is one of the most important indexes. Because the diameter and length of tracheid are very small, it is difficult to directly clamp it onto the tensile apparatus (for example, single fiber tensile apparatus), and the requirements are higher for the test equipment, and even if the accuracy of the test equipment is very good, the validity of results is very low. In recent years, the Zero-span tension technique of paper and pulpmaking industry was applied to the industry of wood, so that rapid assessment the tensile strength of pulp fiber had become possible. The principle of the apparatus is as follows: in the statement of zero-span tension, the fracture of paper is entirely caused by the fracture of fiber across the jaws at both ends, neglecting the influence of binding force between fibers.
