Evaluation of Compressive Strength according to Wood Grain Angle in Korean Tennon-Mortise Joint
Introduction Korean traditional building has been constructed mainly with wood in post and beam structure type. The joint of the building was composed with tennon and mortise, which were manufactured by technical carpenters. Therefore, the detail of it (width, height, thickness and so on) was different as each joint and the structural analysis of it is very difficult and complex. Recently, the precutting or high speed cutting technique has been developed and applied to the timber construction, so the dimension of joint was invariable in the analysis. For the analysis of the joint, it is very important to evaluate the structural element such as compression, bending, tension and friction in the surface to join with wood and wood.
