Heat Transfer in Red Pine Logs during Heat Treatment

Introduction The pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) is a pathogen causing wilt and death in pine trees, is common in North America and Asia, and is spreading to Europe. At present, damage from the pine wood nematode is common in Korea. This study investigated factors important in increasing energy efficiency in the heat treatment of red pine logs infected with the pine wood nematode. A two-dimensional heat transfer model using a finite difference method for the numerical analysis of heat transfer in wood was utilized.
