Methods and Resources for Improve the Aerodynamics of Wood Drying Kilns
Introduction Within all drying kilns of high and low capacities the inner aerodynamics shows a deficit due to the fact that a great amount of the conditioned air flux cannot go through the active channels of the material stacks submitted to drying and goes through the top, lateral, horizontal and vertical passive channels. These negative aerodynamic phenomena determine the conditioned air flow to go through the free passive channels that oppose very low resistances, with velocities and rates that are 2-3 times higher than those from active channels, without to bring a contribution to the wood drying. Therefore the drying times are extremely high, the drying uniformity is haphazard and the energy consumptions are exaggerated.
