The Study on Properties of Heat-Treated Oak
The aim of this work was to study the physical and mechanical properties of heat treated wood. Heat treatment was performed at 185℃ on oak from China. The EMC was of heat treated oak 12.56% that was measured in relative humidity 90% and temperature 30℃ condition. EMC measurements before and after treatment decreased 5.16%. The physical and mechanical properties untreated and treated indicated a significant improved. Swelling of heat treaded wood decreased 29.12%, tangential swelling decreased 29.12% and radial swelling decreased 28.51%, Contact angle on tangential surface increased 12.80% and on radial surface increased 18.80%. MOE of heat treaded wood increased 12.29% and hardness increased 12.4%, while MOR decreased of treaded wood 10.90%.
