Transverse Mechanical Behavior of Wood under High Temperature and Pressurized Steam
Introduction Previous research showed that the shrinkage of wood was significantly reduced under high temperature and high RH conditions, it is stipulated that the phenomenon is related to the softening of wood under high temperature and high RH. However, the extent of actual softening is not clear. The objectives of this study were 1) to analyze the direct relationship between shrinkage cracking and transverse tensile characteristics in moisture saturated wood, and 2) to compare measured tensile strength with published data on the maximum shrinkage stress, compression yield stress, and relaxed compression yield stress from the same wood species.
