Analysis of Dowel Diameter Effecting on Corner Joint Strength in Panel Furniture
Introduction Eccentric connector is usually used to connect plates into orie, and dowel to fix them. The diameter and length of dowel is usually selected by experience. The general admission value of dowel diameter is between 2/5 and 1/2 the thickness of connecting components. The value of dowel length is 3 or 4 times of dowel diameter. The common dowel diameters are 6, 8, 10, 12mm, their length is from 30 to 60mm. Eccentric connector is thinking to bear a heavier set, and dowel act as positioning role, it hardly bear any set. In fact, dowel bears shear force, axial force, torque and the moment. The different value of dowel diameter can effect on comer joint strength. In this paper, a mathematics model of L-type joint is built based on finite element theory and by ANSYS software, different dowel diameters affecting on corner joint strength is calculated.
