Inventory Analysis of Hardboard Produced in Japan

Introduction Although many scientists including me explain wooden materials as environment-friendly ones, there is little reliable quantitative evidence. Therefore, our laboratory has started to analyze potential environmental impacts of wooden materials produced in Japan which is expressed in an external cost of Japanese Yen using life cycle assessment method (abbr. to LCA) and life-cycle impact assessment method based on endpoint modeling (abbr. to LIME) in cooperation with JFPMA from 2005. JFPMA is organized by eighteen board manufacturers in Japan and their products are particle boards, medium density fiberboards, wet hardboards and insulation boards. This paper presents a part of the project which is the average external cost relating with popular wet-based hardboards produced at three mills among members of JFPMA.
