Synthesis of 3,28-Di-O-succinyl-betulin
Introduction Betulin, as a pentacyclic triterpene with a lupane skeleton, is abundant in the bark of white birch. Betulin can be isolated from birch bark, the content of betulin in birch bark varies between 10 and 30%. it is a remarkable natural product. Betulin and its derivatives have many intetesting pharmacological properties, such as cytotoxic activity against many turnout ceil lines and anti-HIV actity, it acts via a different mechanism of action in comparison to other agents. Betulin and its derivative arc not cytotoxic to normal cells,but they do exert a cytotoxic effect on cancer cells. Recent researches showed that some new betulin derivatives showed higher anti-HIV activity than betulin. They will be a significant branch of the agents for anti-HIV and anti-cancer.
