Antifungal and Antitermitic Activities of Eucalyptus Camaldulensis Leaf Oils from Thailand
In this study, we investigated the antifungal and antitermitic activities of leaf oils taken from 3 clones of Eucalyptus caraaldulensis Dehnh. in Thailand. The antifungal activities of the oils were investigated against 7 fungal strains namely, Aspeegillus niger, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Chaetomium globosum, Fomitopsis palustris, Penicillium citrinum, Rhizopus oryzae, and Tramestes versicolor. The antitermitic activities of the oils and the main constituents of the essential oils against subterranean termite, Coptotermesformosanus Shiraki were examined with 2 different methods, namely contact and non-contact methods. And the termiticidal mechanism was examined. It was found that the essential oils from E. camaldulensis leaves exhibited moderate antifungal activities against 6 fungal strains and the antitermitic tests demonstrated that E. camaldulensis leaf oils are both fumigant and toxic to C. formosanus.
