Study on Classification and Evaluation of Wood Quality of Different Poplar Clones from Different Stands for Pulp and Paper Use
Introduction Poplar was one of most potential rude materials for pulp and paper industry in recent years in China. (Zhang, 2003) Larger variation for the wood properties of poplar due to the different clones and various forest practices was reported by many researchers. (Zobel, 1989) So, improvement of qualities of pulp and paper could be acquired by select suitable poplar clone and forest practice in each plantation area. (Barnett,2003; Wimmer,2002; Whiteman,1996)Different poplar clones which were planted at different areas were selected as studying materials in this study, and it most focused on determining the fiber morphological characters, chemical composition of poplar wood and pulping ability, try to clarify the effect of clone and site on those parameters and the relationship among them. Based on this information, the optimal combination between clone and site will be selected for pulp and paper use.
