Preparation and Characterization of Bamboo Charcoal Board

Introduction A mechanical carbonization kiln developed by Park in 1995 made a great contribution to commercialization of bamboo charcoal, which seems to be paved ways of new applications. Owing to greater adsorption and release of minerals compared with wooden charcoals, the bamboo charcoal is being used for various applications such as filtering of liquor production, wall painting for abating of formaldehyde in sick house, etc. The implementation of indoor air quality law in Korea (2004), have continued to hold the publics attention on unhealthy gases like formaldehyde and ammonia emitted from furniture or cement walls in house. This study attempted to investigate mechanical properties, formaldehyde and VOCs absorption, and combustion resistance of bamboo charcoal board prepared from mixture of bamboo charcoal powder and vermiculite with inorganic binder.
