Pressure Effect of Nutrient Solution Retention in Different Woodchip

Introduction Formulation of slow-releasing woodchip fertilizer depicts the new dimension of wood uses. in this regard, Ahmed and Chun (2007) reported that the use of woodchip fertilizer can protect the valuable nutrient losses. It is clear that nutrient content in woodchip fertilizer is directly related with the permeability of concerned wood species. And the permeability of wood varies due to different factors like anatomical features, wood type, moisture content, liquid properties being permeated etc. It was reported that, liquid impregnation at atmospheric pressure was lower from those woods which were treated by vacuum pressure followed by pressure impregnation of liquid (Chong et al., 2007; Ahmed et al., 2005). Therefore pressure impregnation can be applied to increase the nutrient amounts in the woodchip. Our main concern was to make slow-releasing environmental friendly woodchip fertilizer. For this reason, we used several hardwood and softwood to select suitable species for making woodchip fertilizer.
