Synthesis and Adhesive Capacity of Polyvinyl Acetate Emulsion with SilicaNanoparticles

Introduction Polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) latex is friendly to environment as adhesive and coating using in the field of textile, decoration, packing and architecture. But they are less freeze temperature resistance, water resistance, and heat resistance. They are hard and brittle in low temperature and adhesive strength greatly decrease in hot and water air, and bonging strength is not better to some materials such as plastic and mental so they are not to be applied widely. Water resistance is a fatal detect. The nanosilica/polyvinyl acetate organic-inorganic composite latex was synthesized by in-situ emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc) in the presence of silica nanoparticles(SiO2). Some characteristics of latex, such as the dry strength and wet strength, the storage modulus of the modified film, the temperature of thawing of latex and the viscosity of the latex were measured.
