The Physico-Mechanical Properties and Formaldehyde/VOC Emission of Particleboard with Cross-linked Vinyl Resin

Introduction Recently, many countries have already imposed and some are about to impose regulations limiting the emission of formaldehyde from building materials and from the materials used for the manufacture of furniture and fittings. Many building materials emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde (HCHO) which have the potential to affect health and comfort. Particleboards made with urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins release VOCs and formaldehyde. The aim of this study was to investigate the quantity of formaldehyde and VOCs released the mechanical properties of particleboard made from different mixture ratio of UF resin and cross-linked vinyl resin.
