Development of High-performance Fiber Composites
Some natural fibers obtained from non-wood plant fibers provide extraordinary high mechanical strengths. Such mechanical properties of plant fibers are determined mainly by their physical, chemical, and morphological properties such as the fiber orientation, porocity, cellulose content, and crystal structure of the fiber. These natural fibers have a great potential to be applied as reinforcement materials to fiber composite products. The potential strength of wood based materials and plant fiber composites is being discussed as shown in Fig. 1.
