Effect of Coupling Agent on the Mechanical Properties of StrawlHDPE Composites
Introduction Straw/plastic composite has attracted attention, because vegetable fiber can replace wood effectively and alleviate wood supply and demand contravention. Straw displays the strong polarity and hydrophilicity, but HDPE is a typical of nonpolar resin, their interracial adhesion is not good because of their poor compatibility, which leads to poor mechanical properties of the composites. To improve their compatibility, various compounds have been studied. Many kinds of maleic anhydride modified polyethylene or polypropylene are now commercially available. In this paper, we added coupling agents A, B and C respectively and investigated the effects of coupling agent content on the mechanical properties of the composite.
