Roles of Biomechanics in Injury Mechanisms and Prevention: from Landing to Inversion Drop

Although Biomechanics has always been associated with sports and performance, injury mechanism and prevention have long been major interests of biomechanics (Bates et al., 1983; Cavanagh et al., 1981; Nigg et al., 1995). Footwear and orthoses.are two research areas that have been closely related to injury mechanism and prevention. This paper uses two studies performed in our lab to illustrate the roles of biomechanics in assessing injury mechanisms and prevention.
