PRODUCTION OF HYDROGEN AND HYDROGEN-RICH GAS BY CATALYTIC STEAM GASIFICATION OF BIOMASS WITH Al2O3·Na2O·zH2O/NaOH/Al(OH)3 CATALYST
Introduction Biomass, a CO2-neutral and renewable fuel, is recognized worldwide as the most important energy source after coal, petroleum, and natural gas. The type of most of biomass is lignocellulosic, the most abundant component being cellulose 1. Hydrogen production by gasification is one of the utilizations of biomass. Generally, steam addition and use of catalysts are main methods to elevate hydrogen content of product gas. Three distinct groups of catalyst materials, dolomite catalyst, nickel catalyst and alkali metal catalyst have been the subject of study for biomass gasification 2. Dolomite is a cheap disposable catalyst which can significantly reduce tar content of product gas and is usually used as a primary catalyst 3. Nickel catalyst may be generally used for the reforming of product gas 4.Minoru Ishida 5 studied the method of production of Cox-free hydrogen from biomass with sodium hydroxide as catalyst, but the catalyst is costly and can not be regenerated. The aim of this work is to exploit a new technique of production hydrogen and hydrogen-rich gas from biomass.
