EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON GAS-SOLID FLOW BEHAVIORS IN HIGH-DENSITY CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED BED

Introduction High-density circulating fluidized beds have been received increasing attention, e.g, fluid catalytic cracking 1, production of maleic anhydride 2, combustion 3 and gasification 4. For coal gasification, an advanced 285 MW coal-based transport gasifier operated at high circulation rates, velocities, and riser densities is being budding near Orlando in American by Southern Company 4. In China, 20OMW integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) systems based on dense transport bed coal gasification are under developed in the eleventh Five-year Plan. Similar to coal-based transport gasifiers by Southern Company, the dense transport bed coal gasifiers being developed in China are high-density circulating fluidized beds. Many valuable investigations on the complex hydrodynamics of high-density circulating fluidized beds have been carned out. Notably, UBC (University of British Columbia) of Canada have had a very significant role in the effort to understand and apply high-density circulating fluidized beds 5. In China, significant studies on high-density circulating fluidized beds with the background of FCC have been performed 6. However, the geometries configuration, particle properties and operating conditions are significant different. In the present work, experiments on the flow behaviors were carried out in a under designed high-density circulating fluidized bed coal gasifier cold model. Significantly higher solids flux (about 200-400 kg/m2 s) was studied with gas velocity between 7.6 and 10.2 m/s. Lower flux operating conditions (about 100-200 kg/m2 s) were also studied for comparison.
