PROCESS CHARACTERISTICS INVESTIGATION ON CO-GASIFICATION OF COAL AND BIOMASS
IntroductionCo-gasification of coal and biomass has been put forward as a bridge between energy productions from fossil fuels and energy production from renewable fuels1 Compared with biomass, coal reserve is relatively abundant and can be supplied stably; therefore co-gasification of coal and biomass can enlarge the scale of biomass gasification so that a more economical process can be gained. In addition, coal has a higher carbon content compared with biomass, co-gasification can improve the temperature of the gasifier so that tar formation is decreased2 Another advantage is coal or char particles can serve as bed materials in a fluidized bed gasifier to improve the fluidization quality of biomass particles. On the other hand, it is desirable to co-utilize coal and biomass as a step towards sustainable use of fossil fuels and to minimize the impact on the environment by the use of fossil fuels3.
