STUDY ON THE STRUCTUR AND PYROLYSIS CHARACTERISTICS OF WESTERN CHINA COALS

IntroductionCurrent forecasts emphasizing that Chinas future energy consumption will rely heavily on coal. In western China, there are lots of large-scale coalfields, such as Ningxia Lingwu coalfield, Shendong coalfield and Xinjiang Hami coalfield and so on, which have higher inertinite content. To explore the behaviour of these inertinite-inch coals, pyrolysis is necessary and it can provide new insights into the evolution of its composition and physicochemical structure 1. In addition, thermal analysis together with a coupled system for the analysis of the evolution of gaseous compounds can supply important information on the mechanisms of coal decomposition. The objective of this work is to study systematically inertinite-rich coal structure and pyrolysis properties by means of temperature programmed pyrolysis in a Thermo-Gravimetric (TG) system and a fixed-bed reactor. A better knowledge of the thermal behaviour of these unusual coals is necessary in order to assess their potential for being used in certain coal utilization processes.
