THERMO GRAVIMETRIC ANALYSIS AND PYROLYSIS KINETIC STUDIES ON PAINT AND TAR BASED HAZARDOUS WASTES

IntroductionHazardous wastes from industrial production become more and more with the economic development. It was estimated that about 10 million tons of hazardous wastes produced per year in China. There are too many kinds of industrial hazardous wastes, most of which are harmful and so hard for natural decomposing that cause great damage to biology and environment. It is brook no delay to process wastes in a proper way.Resource utilization, minimization and harmless treatment are major methods disposing hazardous waste in the world and now harmless treatment is the most valuable method in China among which incineration is widely used because of its decrement, disinfection and low secondary pollution. Pyrolysis is the leader process of incineration. So pyrolysis process must be deeply studied before the study of incineration. Pyrolysis of solid wastes is a thermo chemistry process which can decompose wastes to small molecule of combustible gas and solid residues in inert gas due to the poor thermo stability of the organic component of the wastes. Thermo gravimetry is widely used in studing pyrolysis characteristics and its reaction mechanism but seldom used in pyrolysis of hazardous wastes. In this paper, experiments on pyrolysis characteristics of Paint and Tar Based Hazardous Wastes were carried out by non-isothermal thermo gravimetry. Effects of particle size, heating rate, and final temperature on pyrolysis kinetics were discussed.
