RANSFORMATION BEHAVIORS OF LEAD DURING PYROLYSIS OF HEIDAIGOU COAL

IntroductionLead (Pb) is categorized in the group of most hazardous elements due to potential carcinogenic properties 1. Although Pb in coal is present in PPM order, Pb released into air during coal combustion process accounted for 6% of Pb pollution in air 2. Pb can result in severe problems to the human health and environment due to its persistence, bioaccumulation and long-term contamination characteristics, especially effects on the neurological development of children 3.Pyrolysis is a process that occurs in most of coal utilization processes and is itself a coal conversion technique. When coal is pyrolysized, Pb in coal undergoes various types of transformation, including these from one solid form to gas phase or to other solid forms. The release ratio of Pb from coal to volatile phase increased with the increase of the pyrolysis temperature 4-6. At the temperature of 1000 °C, about 30-65% of Pb in coal can be released, depending closely on the forms of occurrence of Pb in coals and on the pyrolysis conditions, such as temperature and atmosphere. Therefore, understanding the forms of Pb in coal and their transformation behavior under various conditions during coal pyrolysis is very important. This paper presents a study on the transformation behaviors among different forms of Pb in a Chinese coal bituminous coal, Heidaigou, under various pyrolysis conditions.
