TPR STUDY ON CERIUM-COPPER OXIDE FOR DESULFURIZING HOT COAL GAS

IntroductionHigh-temperature desulfurization of coal-derived gas is a key component in the development of high-efficiency electric power generation processes such as the integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) and poly-generation system. Cerium oxide was evaluated as a candidate second-generation sorbent for high-temperature gas desulfurization due to its potential to produce elemental sulfur during the regeneration phase1. Although the reaction of CeO2-H2S has low sulfidation equilibria, reduced ceria, CeOn(n < 2), is a superior H2S sorbent2. In previous work3, it was found that the reducibility of cerium oxide was increased obviously by the presence of copper. In this paper, cerium-copper oxide samples with different proportions were prepared by co-precipitation. Reduction behavior of the samples was studied by TPR technique. The structure of the samples was also characterized by XRD, BET and FTIR technique.
