DEHYDRATION OF METHANOL TO DIME OVER A SLURRY CATALYST

IntroductionDimethyl ether(DME) is one of the most important feedstocks for chemical industry, its application as a prospective alternative fuel for a diesel engine is being spotlighted lately 1,2. At present, DME, the future clean fuel is produced from methanol dehydration and synthesized directly from syngas. The reactor of DME synthesis is fixed bed reactor or slurry reactor for the direct production from syngas. The latter has been recently received more attention because of their advantages in caloric transfer 3. At present, the catalysts used in slurry reactors are all prepared by dispersing the traditional solid catalysts into an organic medium, which easily leads to the catalyst deactivation 4. In this paper, a novel method of preparing slurry catalysts for methanol dehydration has been suggested. Its main innovative thought lies in preparing the slurry catalysts directly from raw solution. The catalytic performance of the slurry catalysts for dehydration of methanol to DME has been investigated, and results. indicates that the slurry catalysts can efficiently catalyze dehydration of methanol to DME, the conversion of methanol reaches 84.4% and the selectivity of DME nearly reaches 100%. The catalyst also shows a good stability during the investigated reaction of 430 h.
