CARBON DISPERSED IRON- MANGANESE CATALYST FOR LIGHT OLEFIN SYNTHESIS FORM CO HYDROGENATION
IntroductionLight olefin synthesis from CO hydrogenation has been considered as a possible solution and practical interest to meet the great demands for chemical feedstocks, which may provide a more economical way than the conventional methods such as catalytic cracking of naphtha and dehydrogenation of alkanes. In recent years, many efforts have been made on the direct synthesis of light olefins from CO hydrogenation and catalysts with high olefin selectivity have been developed 1-5. Particularly, Iron-manganese catalyst has been extensively investigated 4-6, which exhibits high activity and olefin selectivity. However, at the present time, the yields and selectivity of light olefins are far more optimal, due to the limitation of Anderson-Schulz-Flory distribution in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and secondary reactions such as hydrogenation and polymerization of primary olefin products. Therefore, catalysts with high selectivity to produce light olefins as the desired products still need to be further investigation, and enhancing the olefin selectivity and controlling the product distribution are still the main problems. It is known that unsupported iron-manganese catalyst prepared by coprecipitation method often gives a broad spectrum of products and much heavier hydrocarbons (C5+) are usually the main products, which often gives a low productivity of light olefins. In order to obtain high yields of light olefins, reduction of CH4 selectivity and inhibition of the chain propagation ability are effective, hence, this paper aims at the inhibition of the chain propagation ability on a highly carbon dispersed Fe-Mn catalyst prepared from sol-gel method.
