THE ACID PRE-TREATMENT ON CATALYTIC PERFORMANCE OF CuCl/SiO2-Al2O3 CATALYST IN DMC SYNTHESIS
IntroductionDimethyl carbonate (DMC) is used as a solvent and an additive of gasoline due to the merit of its high oxygen-containing (53 wt % O) and good blending properties to replace methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), and now it is receiving more attention. The promising way to produce DMC is the oxidative carbonylation of liquid methanol 1-2. SiO2-Al2O3 mixed oxides could be prepared by impregnation of aluminum nitrate into silica gel and calcination to modify the surface to form acid centres, and then be used to prepare CuCl/SiO2-Al2O3 catalysts with high catalytic activity for the liquid-phase oxidative carbonylation of methanol to DMC through a solid-state ion-exchange process 3. In this work, the influence of pre-treatment of SiO2-Al2O3 mixed oxides by nitric acid on the catalytic performance of CuCl/SiO2-Al2O3 was investigated.
